Anti-corruption war: President Buhari’s commitment to fighting corruption is applauded by many Nigerians, home and abroad. In the fight against corruption, many are of the opinion that no previous administration has performed better than President Buhari. Also, the anti-corruption crusade is yielding result as Nigeria recently rose 24 places on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rankings, and earned a place on the list of top 10 reformers in the world.

Also, Femi Adesina, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity, said: “Nigeria saw bumper food harvests, especially in rice, whose local production continues to rise significantly (States like Ebonyi, Kebbi, and Kano leading the pack, with Ogun joining at the end of 2017). The price of a 50kg bag of rice – a staple in the country – has fallen by about 30% since the beginning of 2017, as local production has gone up.” The reserve may seems to be the case, as the price of food stuff was observed to skyrocket in other regions.

According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the second quarter of 2016 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declined by -2.06%.
Many economists attributed the recession to poor economic planning and inadequate concrete implementation of economic planning, high inflation rate; high interest rate, high taxation, and policy conflict. Most significantly, it was attributed to the over dependent of Nigeria government on oil for over 60% of its total revenues and the country for over 90% of her foreign exchange earnings.
Nigerians were thrown into hardship during this period of recession as prices of commodities in the market skyrocketed. Even though the NBS announced in September 2017 that Nigerian economy was out of recession, the people of Nigeria are yet to feel the difference between the period the country slipped into recession and when it emerged from recession.
There are certain things that will help the APC to retain power and ensure that President Buhari wins. He has massive electoral value and his stronghold states are still there like in the Northwest includes Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kogi, along with North east; which includes Borno, Yobe,Gombe and Bauchi of course the South-West is a no-go area.
This is because they have positioned themselves to take the presidency in 2023 so they don’t want to make any mistake about that. Do you hear any party making so much noise in the South-West? Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, and Oyo are all for Buhari. Edo is already there. In Delta, they are making a significant move. APC lost Rivers State just by the whiskers, they have people like Rotimi Amaechi and Dakuku Peterside and I can assure you that Rivers may also lose more voters to APC coming 2019.
The APC is standing firm and President Buhari is also standing firm. The President is naturally connected with the masses. Nothing has tampered with that. Buhari is a man of the masses particularly in the North-Central where he has a stronghold, but slowly losing glance. Those who are against Buhari in this country are just a section of the elite that does not have any electoral value or maybe do not have PVC. The next election would be between a section of the elite and the masses. When you talk of electoral value, there is nobody that has the electoral value of Buhari. In Kano, they are going to give not less than two million votes to Buhari. Assuming Senate President Bukola Saraki goes with 300,000 votes in Kwara which is practically possible, they have the extra two million votes in Kano. APC strategy now is to work extra hard to ensure that more of their supporters come out to vote.

If anybody other than Buhari is elected from the North as President, he is going to do eight years. This country must be one. The South-west believes that naturally, it is going their own way. By the time you give Buhari a second term, power goes to the southern part of the country for eight years, and by the time it comes back to the North, the whole generation of leaders have retired. That is why you see the whole tension going on now. Even after eight or 12 years when power comes back to the North, some of them may be in their 60s.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval rating has taken a plunge in the last three years that he has been in office, which informs the belief by political pundits that a run against the president in 2019 possess no political risk. Atiku Abubakar’s blueprint for Nigeria is by far his strongest weapon. The rich manifesto addresses all the challenges currently confronting the country. From defence and security, through job creation, education and infrastructure to poverty alleviation and power, no document from any presidential candidate in the history of Nigeria come close to Atiku’s manifesto in terms of concept, content and creativity.
Finally, Nigerians have a short fuse when it comes to showing understanding with leaders, especially when such leaders are not delivering on electoral promises. 2011 former President Goodluck Jonathan was the darling of Nigerians across ethnic and religious divide. He won the 2011 elections with several millions of votes ahead of General Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate, Pastor Tunde Bakare.
By 2015, this same Jonathan lost to Buhari and left the scene with so much hatred from the voting public. Buhari who had been rejected at the polls three consecutive times was elected. A Buhari who had been roundly disdained as a bigot, a religious extremist, and an unsellable candidate became the toast of Nigerian voters. This time around, history maybe about to repeat itself with an Atiku victory at the general election in February.”
But it is not going to be an easy task. To cross the lines are some critical hurdles of both human and strategy factors.

Out of the 73,944,312 registered voters across Nigeria, as of January 2018, the Northwest had a total of 18,505,984 voters while the Southeast had 8,293,093.
The North central had 10,586,965 registered voters, while the North east zone had 9,929,015.
The Southwest had the second highest number of registered voters with 14,626,800.
The South south as a whole had 11,101,093 registered voters.

Most of the lawmakers and Governors from APC controlled States got voted in just because Buhari raised their hands at campaign rallies.
The president enjoys a feral, cult following in the north and there’s nothing to suggest that has changed. Even now in south west.
Besides, the president continues to enjoy instant name recognition out there. No other politician comes close.
Moreover, the APC currently has 24 States in its kitty. Compare that with the PDP’s 11 and APGA’s 1.
In its prime, the PDP controlled 29 out of 36 states. That was in 2007 when Obasanjo systematically decimated the opposition.
Those were the days when the PDP boasted it was going to rule Nigeria for 60 years.

Nigerian politicians don’t like to play opposition because their default setting is to align with the party that guarantees them food for their bellies. Nobody wants to die of hunger in the name of opposition.
Don’t be surprised if the APC sweeps more States in 2019 because PDP members are daily emptying into the governing party in droves. Whoever wants to win has already first declared operation show your PVC in region to region and ward to ward rallies.
We may just end up with a mono party democracy in 2019 and that would be bad for everyone.

Now, that may be a stretch, but I have interacted with average Nigerians who tell me that Buhari is running Nigeria badly but at least he is no thief.

The APC’s anti-corruption agenda may be scoffed at on social media but it remains ingrained in many minds on the streets.
Nigerians who actually possess PVCs may just hand Buhari another term because “he is not a thief”. These Nigerians have also been told that the thieves are the ones frustrating Buhari and who want to stop him from getting another term. Average vulnerable poor Nigerians up to 15 million voters.
So, yes, there you have it. Barring a miracle, it will be sai Baba till 2023 and there will be just enough humble pies to go around.
Already shared with a degree of certainty that the APC currently has 24 States in its kitty. Compare that with the PDP’s 11 and APGA’s 1. With the governors identifying, Stakeholders, Institutions, churches, Youths, Women forums, Organizations, Artisans and albeit subtly, coming up with their preferred aspirants. This, in effect, means the direction the delegates from such states would head is sealed. But these 36 states are not going to play as much a pivotal role as the 24 non-PDP states now regarded as the battleground states.
However, how well each of the aspirants is able to connect with the delegates from these states and harvest the votes thereof will obviously determine who eventually emerges the president of Federal Republic of Nigeria coming 2019.
Basically, there are two candidates on the card: between a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and current President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Issues which may affect electorate vote in these 2019 elections are:
1. Proper Distribution of the PVC and displaced voters in the North.
2. Many elites without PVC (Operation show your PVC) vs Many vulnerable Nigerians with PVC
3. Moving the location of polling units from one local govt to another location.
4. 15 million poor vulnerable Nigerians to Vote for stomach infrastructure-based campaign.

8. Electorate waiting for hours to be accredited/vote.
9. Restriction of auto-mobile movement and mobile phones, electorate may not be able to trick far to locate his or her polling units, if location seems to be ahead.
10. INEC database system may experience database stress-congestion or experiences total breakdown. Database which may often lead to database breakdown. Let hope that INEC did database stress-test.
